There are three stages to installing apertium on Unix-based operating systems (GNU/Linux, Mac etc.):
- Install prerequisites specific to your operating system
- Install apertium and related packages from SVN
- Follow Minimal installation from SVN, this should be general enough to cover all operating systems
- Fix any problems :)
- General Installation Troubleshooting
If you're using Windows, the best method is to run the Apertium VirtualBox, which lets you run a Unix in your Windows and comes with Apertium pre-installed. Alternatively, there is a simple script at Apertium guide for Windows users or a more manual method at guide using Cygwin.
Note: some language pairs (eg. apertium-br-fr, apertium-nn-nb) require Constraint Grammar in addition to Apertium and lttoolbox, see the section on installing vislcg3.

Android users can download the Apertium offline translator app.
