Talk:Afrikaans and Dutch
Grammatical flaws in translator:
- "hebben" used as auxiliary verb, where "zijn" should be used. (Though sometimes "hebben" is used correctly)
- "als" vs "dan" (als = equality, dan = difference, afrikaans only uses as = als)
- "deur" mostly tagged as noun, while most of the time it's preposition (oor = over has same problem)
- "sy" often wrongly translated as "zij", where possesive "zijn" or "haar" should be used.
- "tweede kleinste" = "op een na kleinste" Same problem with other numbers, of course.
- Double negation "Slegs in die suide het Estland geen natuurlike grens nie." = Slechts in het zuiden had Estland geen natuurlijke grens.
- Verbs should be translated as plural in case of a summation (eg "Die vernaamste stede is Pretoria en Johannesburg." = "De voornaamste steden zijn Pretoria en Johannesburg"
- Plurality, plural is often translated as singular: "parke" = "park"
- Possesive s: "Johannesburg se" is translated as "Johannesburg s", but the s should be attached: "Johannesburgs"
- "'n" at the start of a sentence results in a lack of plurality in the translation
- "vierkante" wrongly translated to "plein", when vierkante is often appropriate
- "wat" left as it is, while depending on the sentence, "die" is better or the only option
