Given the singular and plural forms of the word, one should be able to accurately generate the definite forms.

Note: nouns ending with an "-u" are masculine; if the -u is preceded by two consonants, it is heard, if not, it is mute; mute -u-s are sometimes written as -ŭ.

Definite article[edit]

Singular form[edit]

Masculine and neuter nouns:[edit]

  • -lu (short u disappears, -lu is added; long u is conserved, -lu is added and becomes, therefore, -ulu)
   bârbatŭ -> bârbatlu (man)
   mesŭ -> meslu (middle)
   picurarŭ -> picurarlu (shephard)
   calŭ- callu
   //full -u
   scamnu -> scamnulu (stool/chair)
   araftu -> araftulu (tailor)
   yeatru -> yeatrulu (doctor)
  • -li (for nouns ending in -i)
   frati -> fratili (brother)
   dinti -> dintili (tooth)

Feminine nouns:[edit]

  • -a, for those ending with -â
   featâ, feata
   soacrâ - soacra
   lunâ, luna
   neauâ, neaua
  • -ea, for those ending with -i
   carti, cartea
   sihati, sihatea
   lilici, lilicea
   amari, amarea
  • -eea, for those ending with -ee
   geadee, geadeea

Plural form[edit]

Masculine nouns:[edit]

  • -ľi (simply added to the end of the plural form)
   bârbatŭ - bârbaț - bârbațľi
   cucotŭ - cucoț - cucoțľi
   pescu - peșțâ - peșțâľi
   caimo - caimaḑ - caimaḑľi

Note: for plurals ending with "-i", the "-i" becomes a short, and, in pronounciation, it may be mute

   ficiorŭ - ficiori - ficiorĭľi / ficiorľi
   yumarŭ - yumari - yumarĭľi / yumarľi

Note: ^ we need to find a rule for this
