Bibles can be useful for evaluation of transducers and translation systems. Also, they're often some of the only text that can be found easily in a language.
Bible translations are often not open source, so can't be redistributed, but can be used locally for evaluation.
Format
To be consistent across Apertium sub-projects, all bibles should be in the following format:
Genesis 1 1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. ... 31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 2 1. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. ...
